Hi, we're The Bones.

We are a system of 8+ people.

We're white, in our 20s, & live in Canada.

We're nonbinary, queer, & use they/them pronouns.

We're a system.

  • Instead of growing into one person, we grew into multiple.

  • As a collective, we call ourselves plural or a system.

  • As individuals, we call each other systemmates or people.

  • We realized our plurality in 2018 and we're still learning how to work together.

  • While our plurality is related to our mental illnesses, we don't consider our plurality itself to be a disorder.

  • We believe that all systemmates (regardless of why they exist) deserve opportunities for expression and connection.

  • We created Polychordal for our systemmates to express their realities, to connect with each other, and to connect with people outside of our system.

We're a musician.

  • Piano is our lifelong instrument, but we also sing and play others.

  • We're currently studying music in university - specifically how music can facilitate wellness or change.

  • Communicating through music helped many of our systemmates to express what they couldn't express verbally or otherwise.

  • Collaborating helped strengthen the relationships in our system and increased many of our systemmate's self knowledge and confidence.

  • We hope Polychordal inspires other systems to use music to help their internal relationships and communication.

Some of the people in our system.

Our systemmates have only shared what they feel comfortable sharing. Some information has been simplified or redacted.
